Hi, my name is Ted Vieira and thank you for visiting minor11.com. Throughout my life I’ve always been more interested in creating stuff, being an artist of sorts. I’ve also been most inspired by other creatives and artists, not only enjoying their work but even more importantly, learning about their approach to the work; what’s the motivation; what inspired them. There are plenty of technical and gear related conversations on any kind of art you want to produce. Minor11 was created as a platform, an online journal where I can share more of the artistic and emotional aspects that motivate me to create.
Jazz (and other music)
For most of my life I’ve been a professional musician. Playing mostly clubs and shows, with a strong passion for jazz. I love the essence of jazz, the fact that it’s built around the art of improvisation. (much like life) The jazz I’m mostly drawn to is from the early and mid part of the twentieth century. Artists like Miles Davis, Bird, Joe Pass, Paul Desmond, Coltrane, Ella, Bill Evens, Wes Montgomery, and the list goes on…
About ten years ago I found a new obsession with photography. It has become my main artistic focus over the past few years. Again, the photography and photographers that I love the most come from the early to mid part of the twentieth century. I seem to be (happily) stuck there. Photographers like Saul Leiter, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Doisneau, Brasai, Penn, Avadon, Robert Frank, and the list goes on…
My favorite kinds of images, and even music, for that matter, is moody; it should project a lot of emotional content; feel; something very human to connect to.
In this past year I’ve started shooting with film. That’s a big passion with me when it comes to photography. I still do like digital and the convenience it offers. But man, film is really something different, special. Not just the final result, but the whole process of using film and a mechanical film camera to capture the images. And yes, I even love developing the film myself. It’s funny, I kind of feel like I’m starting all over again. That feels good!
Anyway, that’s a little about me.
What I’ve decided to do with this site is:
One) Publish content here that might be some of my thoughts about the artistic process (that hopefully might be helpful to others). I’ll post some of my work here. It might duplicate some of the content on my other sites, but it might end up being unique and exclusive to this site.
Two) Promote others work. If there’s an artist that has really inspired me, living or dead, I’ll probably want to share that with you from time to time.
Three) Use it as a portal. A place where you can click through to my other websites that are focused on specific areas of my creativity: Photography, Street Photography, Music.
Everything is just getting started here and I imagine it will be a slow process of building and adding content. As with most projects, it will start one way with some loose guidelines and inevitably take some twists and turns along the way, but I’m looking forward to it!
